About Got To Glow
Your phone is four years old and starting to sulk. The question here is rarely which new one to buy. It is whether this one still has another year in it, what that year would take, and what you would give up by hanging on instead. That is what we write about.
- Got To Glow has been running since 2012 and is still publishing. There are close to 200 articles here you can search.
- Nothing gets written up here until we have lived with it. Every piece is a first-hand account, so the faults we mention are ones we hit ourselves. Advertising and paid placement pay the bills, and a paid link is always labelled as one. Buying a placement does not buy a good review, and it never buys silence about a fault we have already run into in our own kit.
- The questions are the ones owners ask. Is this battery worth changing after four years, or is the phone finished anyway. Will a factory reset buy me another winter. Is the cheaper repair shop going to void what is left of my warranty.
- We argue for keeping things longer than the industry would like. That is a position, and you are free to decide it is the wrong one.
- Follow along and you get to see how a device ages in real use. Reviews stop covering that about a week after launch. You end up replacing things less often, and you know exactly why when you do.
A piece starts when something in this house breaks, slows down or stops holding charge. We try the repair first, work out what it takes, and write down what actually happened, including the times the repair was a waste of an afternoon entirely. Sometimes the answer is to stop.
A review tells you what a device is like new, and almost nothing about what it is like to still own.
Read it before the thing breaks.
Follow along and the next repair-or-replace decision arrives with some of the thinking already done. Keep reading. If a piece here saves someone you know from replacing a perfectly good machine for the sake of a battery or a fan, send it to them.
Got To Glow is one of fifteen titles published by G R Sites, an independent publisher writing since 2008, under one editorial policy and one disclosure standard. The other fourteen carry the same habit into other rooms. What a bill is really doing to you. Which repair is worth the trouble. What a contract assumes.
