Roasted in the onsite call because of my Manager

As told in the earlier post that I was looped into a large opportunity and the most frustrating part was that my manger will also be working along with me. Soon after the kick-off call for the large opportunity, I was about to take a quick break and without leaving a minute break my manager called me up and was listing some 5 different talks to be completed in 2 mins. I was like, is my manager out of his mind, as all the activities that my manger was detailing can wait and there were other important activities to be completed before my end of the day. However, with no options left for me, I had to work on all the tasks listed down by my manner and had no time left to work on the actual tasks listed down by on-site leaders. As the day ended, we had hands session with the on-site team to take over the activities left over by our team. The call started and for first few mins we were detailing on the plan for the opportunity. Later, when my manger started to detail the activities completed during our offshore time, the on-site lead got furious and was blasting us for working on unnecessary items and wanted to complete only the activities listed by them. My initial thoughts about the Dark Series

I have started to watch the Dark season recently on Netflix and wanted to share my thoughts on the series after watching the first few episodes. I wanted to keep it short, as I have watched only the first few episodes in the series and still have not got much into each of the characterizations. Therefore, the following are my initial thoughts about the series 

• The visuals in the episodes seem to be too dark and the scenes are hardly visible during nighttime. Sometimes, I had to even check my iPad's screen brightness and press the home button to validate if it had moved into sleep mode. 
• One aspect I loved about watching the dark series is its background score and sometimes it forces me to plug in Apple headphones to truly enjoy the sound experience. A big shout out to the background sound engineer and the music composer for pulling it off. 
• Even though the series seems to be in German, Netflix has English Audio options and at times there is a mismatch between audio and subtitles. 
• A Few times I felt some scenes and characterizations were purposely dragged for making it interesting and it was a bit boring and fast-forward was required to keep engaging.

Double work from my manager and onsite coordinator

So, I was assigned annoying opportunity with the same old irritating onsite team, and to add fuel to apathy, my manager was assigned to support me for its completion. I was expecting anyone else other than my manager for supporting this request because of two reasons, one is that he would suggest the most irrelevant work and the second worrying part is that both onsite coordinator and my manager have ego issues and would often clash on simple inputs. So, on the first day, the opportunity went smoothly with the onsite team suggesting some slides for modifications and some coordination with other teams. At the outset, it seemed simple and straightforward work and I acknowledged the onsite team that it would get completed by tomorrow. However, all these were completely ruined by the manager on the very next day and my manager started to share new suggestions that were completely irrelevant from client requirements. With these new suggestions from my manager, I got two tasks on my list - one is to complete the tasks assigned by the onsite coordinator and the other task is to complete the work suggested by the manager. New roadmap and plan shared by Onsite team

Post previous day early morning discussions with the onsite team, myself and the delivery lead was busy for the entire day addressing multiple review comments shared and in the meantime, we were also connecting with different teams to get their suggestions and approaches. After completing all the task list shared by the onsite team, I have shared the updated version to them for their review and updates. We were hopeful that the onsite team would make some changes to the document as suggested by the leadership team and we would have minimal work to be completed from offshore. However, we joined the next days call and within few minutes the onsite team was notifying that there was change in plan from the client and we would have to revamp our entire solution and approach. We were shell shocked and had no other option but to listen to those discussions and finally before end of the call, I notified to the onsite that we would work on revised plan shared today and post these changes, if there are any further updates to be made the onsite team had to take ownership and complete it further. The onsite team was also acknowledging the fact that there were multiple suggestions shared by client and they were completely fine in taking ownership of the document. Got stuck into irritating work again with old people

After detailing my manager about the interactive work from my previous work, I convinced my manager that I can support for time being and would revert to the new service request once it gets active. Now, I have conveyed the same to the delivery team that I should not be supporting iterative requests from previous work, however since we have a good rapport, I have convinced my manager to give nod for further support. Agent hearing all these conversations and acknowledging my continuous effort, the delivery person looped me into original mail. Only after getting into the main thread I understood the extent of bandwidth required from my end to close this service request. I was shocked to see that it may require the entire day to complete a part of it and may need focus for the next two days. I got completely furious and now I have no other option but to support this request. For continuous two days, I was completely roasted with back to back calls and iterative changes to the document. With all my patience, I was able to close the document in time and while closing, I conveyed to that delivery lead that going forward I might not be able to support such ad-hoc requests. Oscillation about the nature of work

So, I had to work with the same onsite team with whom I had worked earlier and the same offshore delivery lead with whom I had issues about his nature of the work. I had ownership of setting up a call between both onsite and offshore teams, and the call started with all required introduction about the team and service request details. After completion of the call, gathering all required information for my work, I was bit relieved as I had most of the standard slides with me and only a few slides had to be recreated with the information shared. Now, I had oscillation about the nature of the work, whether it would be simple or would it get complicated each day with new requirements shared by the client and onsite team. Till next day’s call, all I had to do was gather some slides from the repository and keep empty slides for the onsite team to fill in. Good Salary hike and hope for promotions

It is that time of the year, where every IT employee who had put their souls and hard work for past one year would get recognised. Yes, it is none other than yearly salary hike and promotions. As, I have reiterated many times in my earlier posts that I have been awarded first rating in my team and recognised as key player in the team. In addition, during this year’s annual rating cycle, I thanked my manager for awarding me the first rating and taking much courage I requested my manager about my promotion. I was awarded first rating for two continuous years and promotion should be by default. However, there is a company policy, which states an employee should have completed 3 years, before he/she is been considered for promotion. Decision to move from Airtel Postpaid to prepaid

One fine day, I decided to move from Airtel postpaid to other mobile operator and requested mobile number portability for switching over to new mobile operator. I got the portability request number and within few minutes I got call from the airtel customer support team and the executive who was speaking, convinced me that it would be better I moved from postpaid to pre-paid, if my objective of moving to a new operator was high postpaid bills. The point seems to be valid for me and I was checking about the procedure and was confirmed by the executive that, within four hours the postpaid connection would be moved to prepaid and in addition, my child number can also be transferred to prepaid. Send off to my Team colleague for joining new team

As I conveyed earlier, one of my teammates and friend from my team has decided to move to new team and it really shook me a lot. Now I would be all alone in my team and the work would pile up a lot and no new joiner(s) have been planned for replacement. Finally, the day has come, and my colleague’s farewell day and gift were planned. Since I was in the same ODC as my colleague I had no other option but to coordinate for the gift and e-voucher to be shared. However, the final day has come and till now no person from my team has sent me their share for the gift or voucher. But I don’t want to be the spoilsport for my colleague and got gift out of my pocket and ensured it was ready on the day of farewell. On the farewell day as, usual everyone was praising the work and vice versa and she left for one last time from my ODC, bay and location. Most frustrating week with lot of work load

After acknowledging the new work from the old team with tight deadlines, I got update from the current opportunity delivery team that this opportunity to closed within next one week. To add more fuel to fire, the day they are planning to close this opportunity is the same day where I was planning to take off from work and spend some quality time with my family. In meantime, I conveyed to this new opportunity delivery team that I got looped into earlier opportunity that I was working on and it would get over in next few days, so my support for this opportunity would be limited. The new opportunity delivery team were very kind enough to accept the fact that I would not be available only for next few days and would again support in later stage. However, this irritating team has looped me into the calls and updates, without even checking with me as a courtesy whether my bandwidth is available or if I am working on another opportunity. Getting car serviced after much followup

I usually service my Car from one ford vendor and they offer free pickup and drop services. For this time as well, I was looking to book service from the same Ford vendor and I was not able to reach them in any means. I was trying to book service for my car through online and was calling different phone numbers available for that dealers. Every mode to book service and reaching them on phone went in vain and finally I was able to get one Sales representative number from the same vendor. When I enquired about booking service at the dealers, the representative gave me a shocking answer that the ford vendor has shut down due to management issues and I had to contact new dealer for service booking. The new ford dealer had opened the service shop very recently and they don’t have enough equipment to match previous service vendors’ quality and I had no other option but to service the car, as it had crossed the defined service kilometers. Appreciation for work completed on weekend

I don’t normally check office mails while returning back from native on Monday mornings however, on that specific Monday I checked my mail and was shocked to see sweet surprise in mail inbox. The delivery expert with whom I was working with for past one week and even on weekends, had dropped a long mail to me with CC-ing my manager and the mail detailed the appreciation of my work, recognition to the hard work I had put in for the opportunity and commitment I had shown while working for the accounts. I was spellbound after seeing the mail, as I was not expecting such appreciation or recognition for my work from the delivery expert. When I reached office, I couldn’t believe myself and was showing the mails to my colleagues and I immediately dropped note to that delivery expert acknowledging the recognition mail and thanking enough for the appreciation mail. Failure of my 4+ year old MacBook Pro

After reaching my home I was taking rest for 2 to 3 days and told my office team-lead that I would be connecting from home for the entire week. So, now I connected to work from my home and had no work for the entire week. I was enjoying my leisure time at my home and was having good meal for the entire week. During one of the meals, I poured water on my table and was too lazy to clean it up. After few minutes, I wanted to browse through YouTube videos and opened my MacBook Pro, as my office laptop had too many restrictions. Now out of my innocence, I kept my MacBook Pro on the table where I poured the water and have been using my MacBook Pro for a long time. After few hours of usage, I could sense something is not working out in my laptop and later found that the water had entered into my Macbook Pro motherboard and had spoiled it completely. I tried different options to get repaired it and to restore in working condition but, all attempts was unsuccessful and I had to look out for new options.
